The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Brian Selznick

When twelve-year-old Hugo, an orphan living and repairing clocks within the walls of a Paris train station in 1931, meets a mysterious toy seller and his goddaughter, his undercover life and his biggest secret are jeopardized.

You know the book is a big deal if it has its very own website.

I am doing a project on graphic novels, and this is considered to be a graphic novel (or comic book) by some people. Do you agree?

I know Ethan said this book wasn't scary, but I need someone else's input. I think the pictures are a little frightening. Do you think a kindergartener would like this his or her parents read it to them?

This book is on my list to read, Ethan. Not only are the illustrations wonderful, but people say the story is great, too. Would you say it's a scary story? It's fantasy right?

This book is on my top 10 list it is definitely one of my favorites! It is very interesting. If you like surprises this would be the book for you. I could not put the book down. I'm glad this book wasn't a reading group book. I'm a reader that likes to read on. I would definitely recommend this book for you if you like mysteries. It is a good book with good illustrations and good stories. Emma in 4/v

Emma, that is about the most right-on thing I've ever read...that you are glad it wasn't a reading book group because you like to read on. I COMPLETELY get it. That really tells me, too, that you understand the book! Great post, Emma! Lots of good reasons to back up your statements.

This book is one of my favorites. The end is especially good. I hope there's a sequel.

Elizabeth,
Did the author leave the ending open for a sequel? I wonder....
